The University of Washington has complained for years that the amount of money it gets per student is falling behind competing research institutions nationally, and that the quality of education it offers is at risk. UW is the state's flagship institution and remains one of the top research universities in the nation. Last year, the university spent $16,283 per full-time student, a figure that includes both graduate and undergraduate students.
