I recently acquired a 1983 300D and was very happy with the driving...until it statred to make a weird "BZZZ" noise when driving. As I was closer to home the noise turned into a "CLANK..scraping...CLANK". I had the windows down so I could hear clearly. I pulled over looked underneath the car and did not see anything hanging. I drove home and parked it.
The noise is coming from the right rear tire area.
I am afraid to drive it, unless I have some sort of idea. I spent about three hours researching this last night on this website, it may be the brakes, differential, wheel bearing. I like to know what to say to the mechanic or when I call my Dad.
