I am assuming from the tranny fluid deal that it is an automatic ?
You DO need to drive it !!!!!!! And not just around the parking lot... take it out for a good test drive...
An auto 240 , if not in peak shape, may be slower than you want or need depending on the traffic and highway design in your area...
Getting up to speed on regular on ramps to merge safely with traffic is iffy.
What counts on the leak is where it is coming out...
if it is the front trans seal then you have to drop the trans to fix it... other places you can probably fix it by just getting it up on stands...
