I cannot believe you are posting this! Is he registered with the EPA? Has he bought the license to the health and human effects study from the NBB as required by the EPA?? If not then he is essentially running it like a moonshine business.

This topic is not appropriate for posting in a public forum and you are not doing him a favor by posting his phone number here!

I agree, what he is pedaling is WVO not BioDiesel...
BioDiesel is a regulated transportation fuel that is refined from virgin vegie oil specifically for that use. We need to keep that message clear or "Joe Public" is really going to get confused.

What are you talking about? Biodiesel can and IS being made from WVO. It is perfectly legal and safe. Griffon waste industries in Kentucky is making biodiesel from WVO and is selling it at the pump. It is just one of the many companies doing it. The difference is that they are registered with the EPA and legally allowed to sell their fuel.

Jim, Sorry I jumped the gun and used the term "virgin" in a way that the original BioDiesel term was defined by the soy bean growers of the US and NBB a number of years ago. That has loosened up to include "diesel fuel" that has been developed and refined from virgin vegie oil, animal fat and WVO as long as it is produced by a company that is registered with the NBB and EPA.
The fuel has to meet ASTM D 6751 specifications and the facility and fuel is suppose to be tested and inspected periodically under those guidlines.

I am just very leary of all the "home-brewers" that use BioDiesel and WVO in the same breath. If the Farm in central Virgina is a legitimate BioDiesel producer then they would have no problem showing their national certification and insurance coverage. I would not put that stuff in my car unless it was!

I am one of the home-brewers, but am also very leary of on the ones that do not distinguish between the two fuels. That said, I do run WVO at times. When I am leaving on a long trip (long enough to burn up the tank of fuel) I will get the engine hot, then fill the tank with vegetable oil. I have a flat plate heat exchanger to bring the oil up to 160++ F. With that I have met the two must haves for running WVO. (You must have a hot engine before the WVO is introduced and the oil must be hot.) When I get to where I am going I typically only have a couple of gallons in left in the tank when I fill it with pump diesel. I make no claims that this is biodiesel. The rest of the time I run as much actually converted, no joke biodiesel as I can. Sometimes that is 90%+, sometimes it is as little as 10%.

Amen to that. My only exception is I trust the stuff I brew. I control the quality. I am responsible for my actions. I am not taking chances with someone else's engine. I'm REALLY happy that the NBB has finally taken a hard look at the quality issues of the commercial fuel and is addressing them with the BQ-9000 requirements. http://www.nbb.org/resources/fuelqualityguide/
Cheap producers cutting corners on fuel can only hurt the industry.

Back to the thread.

If you home-brew biodiesel DO NOT sell it or trade it for goods or services!!! It is ILLEGAL. If you do, DO NOT advertize it on a public forum. You are just asking for trouble!!!

It would be near Fredericksburg V.A. which is about 40 miles south of D.C. on interstate 95.

What about selling it as "bio-home heating oil" in drums? I'm considering it, realized I can produce 500% as much as I use...

You actually should be in pretty good shape for that. I'm no expert, so check it out for yourself, but you are not making road fuel so you should be ok.

Sounds good to me.. Not my fault if someone buys a drum of heating oil and pumps it into their car
