Using Gas in Biodiesel in a 300SD

I am currently using B100 in my MB and it runs great. Reviewing the owners manual I find that it discusses using GAS mixed in with the diesel #2 during the winter months. Does anyone have any info on this combination. I am getting mixed reactions for a lot of folks. Truck drivers tell me that they use it all the time with no ill effects.

I am wondering if I added a 10% gas mix to my B100, in winter months, will it cause any problems???? Thanks in advance.

I've run a mix of 4.5 gallons of pure veg oil to .5 gallons of Regular gas...and it liked it a lot.

I wouldn't bother with gas, just put use a blend of winter diesel and biodiesel and you will be fine.

hmmmmmmm, GASOLINE + Diesel Compression Ratio = WMD!......I've cut it with white kerosene, even tried brown but NEVER GASOLINE!

I don't know about a 10% ratio, but I do know that biodiesel can be compressed more than regular diesel, and gasoline can not be compressed nearly as much. So I'm guessing that the more gas you add to it, the less it will hold up under compression. I suppose you could try it, but I'd be careful about how much I used. Start with a very low percentage.

in the winter months i just blend B100 with a couple of gallons of dino-diesel or kerosene...i have been skeptical on using RUG (regular unleaded gas) to blend with B100...if dino-diesel and kerosene work i'd just stick with that....i have a winter blending chart that i'll try to post for you...hopefully it will come out all right...

Back in the early 80's, I used to blend gas with diesel fuel based on information that either someone told me or maybe I read it? I can't remember now. Anyways...I used this blend in my VW's (Rabbit and Jetta) and now that I think about it, maybe that was the reason that I had warped heads on both cars... Sold the Jetta and replaced the head on the Rabbit, only to get another warped head. Maybe is best to stay away from these witches brews and stick with the fuel these cars were designed for?

Last I checked page 85 of my owners manual it stated not to exceed 30% regular gasoline in #2 diesel during winter months. #1 or kerosene would still be the first choice.

Myself as well as many people here:

use gasoline mixed with veg oil with good results.

So you have a 123, correct? The production run started in 1976 I believe. So it was designed in the late '60s to the early '70s. So you are relying on technology that is almost 40 years old. By 1985 the start of the 124 production run, MB had stopped advising the use of gasoline. My manual (1987 300TD) says to blend #1 diesel or kerosene in the winter. I burn B99 in the summer and cut it with petroleum diesel in the winter. I have been ok with B75 down to 20 degrees. I wouldn’t put any gas in a diesel, of course I would burn diesel in a gas engine either.

My 2 cents.

Chris

Diesels Have a Compression Ratio of anywhere from 16:1 to 24:1, Gasoline Engines are usually at 8:1.........Know why a diesel doesn't need spark plugs???.........BECAUSE IT'S COMPRESSION RATIO IS SO HIGH THAT THE TEMPERATURES IN THE CYLINDERS EXCEED 2,000 Degrees F!.........Would you like to be the one to throw GASOLINE into a 2,000 degree anything??????.............I'm surprised that your engines haven't melted!..................Man, that's like the closest you'll probably ever get to a nuclear explosion! LOL!!!!

But gas engines inject fuel with the air, therefore have detonation issues, in a diesel, fuel is supposed to burn as soon as its injected, so whats the issue with a little gas mixed in? My understanding is that a diesel can burn anything as long it it can still properly lubricate the IP and dosen't clog up the injectors.
