Timing advance for Biodiesel.

For those running Biodiesel and wanting better performance, I tried advancing the IP timing by 2* to 3* to take advantage of utilising all the energy that biodiesel has to offer and to offset the slight power loss that is normally associated with Biodiesel. So far I'm pleased with the results at 26* and my emissions actually came out a little less!

26* isn't that much. Others have had good results advancing to 28*.

Won't that increase EGT? Should you have an EGT probe to monitor tempatures?

EGT pyrometer will be installed, along with a 2bar pressure gage and a more accurate oil pressure gage.

I have a 1995 E300d non-turbo I run on B100. Is there anything else I need to be concerned about with advancing the timing? What is a conservative increase?

Nothing other than stock is conservative. You could probably set it to 26* with no worries.

how is everyone getting their crank at 28*?

I keep missing the mark, must have rotated ten full cycles trying to line them up.

if you put a long pipe on the end of your ratchet you can get a finer degree of control
