Heating WVO 300D W124

Hi,
I am considering bypassing the fuel heater thermostat in my ride to heat the veggie oil.
Has any one done this?
It would seem the cheapest and neatest solution to heating.

I have considered that it may not be great if i want to run diesel at any time as it will be heated and will reduce its lubricant properties and reduce the amount of fuel going into the donk, but i guess on a hot day the IP will heat the diesel to engine temp any way. What do you all think?

I did by pass the heater thermostat, all seems great, i do think the heaters need to be on for the fuel to be heated. I reckon it has been worth doing.

Even though its far too small to heat an entire tank to 180*f? The heater is only designed to warm diesel to the point it won't wax in extreme cold.

I dont understand the heater the same way as you do, it does not heat the fuel in the tank but heats it pre filter.

The thermostat has been by passed this now uses the heater differently to its design.

Peace and blessings Howie

In general, on most engines, engine oil heats much more slowly than coolant and does not come to nearly as stable of a temperature as coolant. Usually you will end up with slower switchover times (in two tank systems), inadequate heating at cruise and idle and excessive heating under heavy loads.

Definate possibility of getting veggie too hot.

Thus burning the oil, like you can in a pan on the stove.

That will make it stick to the insides of the fuel line.

Like seasoning an old iron skilit.

And the danger of a fuel leak on a hot exhaust manifold.

Fire hazard in my oppinion. Water heat keeps you in a safer zone than the exhaust heat would. This question has been asked previously on several other sites.

wile i agree that 80deg c is lower than would be best. exhausts get relay hot like i thing around 7000 deg c, they actually can glow red hot under load.

the only thing i know exhausts could be useful for is super heating steam so it becomes dry and a perfect gas b4 entering the combustion chamber.

If you do heat oil this way i reckon u may get into trouble.

Well, I was going to say at least oil heat is better than exhaust heat.

Exhaust heat is the hardest to control heat source for WVO. The only thing worse would be trying to use it to heat diesel too.
