Any Ideas for Rusty Fender wells other than welding/replacing?
My wheel arches around my back quater panel wells are starting to rot. It this a job that I can do with just fiberglass? I can't weld, and I don't really want to put too much money into the car, and that's mostly the only rust I have (other than a little bit of surface). How long do you think something like this would last? I know this isn't the purist approach, but...

That is a real short term fix that the slammers use to get rid of a car in a hurry. A few weeks under the right conditions,,, wet,,, would probably be the longest until it starts bubbling and showing the orange spots. No substitute for new metal welded in and treated with some good rust preventative,,,,,, very expensive also. Sorry.

Matt,
Pete is right. No better substitute than cutting it all out and welding in new metal. I did two fiberglass patches on my Mercedes just the other day. Read my blog and you can see how I'm doing my rust repair. Lots of pics. I'll put fiberglass repair pics in soon bob |

Foam repair
Quote:
A quick fix is to use expanding foam from an autobody supply store. It makes a tight seal and form it the way you want then apply filler. |
