It is quite a project but the exterior is almost done....
Painting and restoring this 1980 300TD. Still have to install some of the trims and all the doors seals. I am having a hard time finding the right plastic clips for the rear door seals. http://gallery.me.com/flangenard#100638

Isn't it amazing the way old Mercedes paint can be shined up?!
You could leave the car under a tarp outside for twenty years, and just wash it, polish and it will come up as good as new! I did the same procedure to my 240D.

Unless you have a car that was taken in for a budget repaint once the paint oxidized a little. Then you're stuck with low quality paint that can't be shined up and constantly chips off. Those who have cars with original paint are fortunate, indeed.

Hey Fred,
Dont it make you feel good when you have such a great looking outcome to your labor!!! Have you tried Phil at fastlane for the clips? He has a reputation for finding needles in hay stacks when it comes to things like that!! Congratulations are in order, just keep it out of parking lots, you dont need the chips & scrapes.

Very nice, I really like the "painted to match' wheel covers on the euros.

Thanks guys.
Layback40 It feels very good indeed... Got all my parts from Phil, really nice, helpful and knowledgeable. The clips i removed from the rear door seals (6/door) are little white square clips. The clips i got are much bigger, black funny looking... The part number seems right but the clips are different... They do not fit right.(i ll get some pix). I am sure I/we will figure it out.. Also right, when you say, keep it away from parking lot. I don t even like when people stare at it too long, might tarnish the paint....

It took a total of 2 months....
Finally, today, after installing the last bits, door seals, window seals door panels and a few small things, the project is completed. It feels really, really good... ![]() I prefer the look of the regular headlights, but after comparing to the euro, the euros give me a better lighting. Anyway, it's done. Huge project for a guy like me and thanks to everybody for your help during the last 2 months. http://gallery.me.com/flangenard#100638 Fred
