Is it practical to replace rocker panels on a W124?
I have a 1987 300TDT diesel wagon that runs great, but the rocker panels have bad rust. Any idea how much it would cost for me to get them replaced with a set of used rocker panels? (I can get used rockers.)
I don't know how to weld, nor do I have the time to learn. Thanks alot. |

It's probably just as cheap to buy new ones through aftermarket or official sources. Some dealers off significant discounts to MB club members and i'm sure that Tom Hansen will get you a great price (if W124's are considered a classic).
You're probably looking at 12-15 hours of work on each side @ $45/hr.

Hello - looking through old posts - I've got the same question - my rockers (sills) behind the front wheels and in front of the back wheels, and the jack points all look pretty bad (not evil bad - just not good). My understanding is the rocker/sill is part of the structure of the car - not just finish cladding - or is there an outer shell and often the structural part is good? or is it one piece? I'm in the North East so finding a solid donor at a junk yard is probably not going to happen - but can I buy a new replacement part (haven't seen one online yet)? (I've attached a photo - yes, that front fender is bad - I'm going to replace that with a clean, blue, used one.
Thanks, TT |

I've now seen w124 rockers on ebay - but the new type with the square cover for the jack holes. Will these work as replacements for the older round jack holed ones? (Mines a 1987 300TD). Also, would a sedan and wagon be the same rocker/sill (this or any year)?
Thanks, TT |
