Rust repair panels? (W123)
Does anyone know anything about rust repair panels for W123 cars? MY '84 300TD has significant rust just aft the driver's side rear door (into the wheel well), and in the rockers. The rest of the car isn't too bad... minor stuff that can be fixed with a little welding.
I'm going to try to cut out some of the bad and POR-15 it for now... Thanks! Chris |

I got a pair of scratch and dent fenders from adsit for $95.00 a piece. My body man said they were great. HTH

Hello cscmc1
please check (if you want to) your inner wheel wells and such (inner floor board to rocker joint, under and behind that rust creating rubber undercoating, ect.) My car was mint/perfect on the exterior when i bought it...but when i started digging to restore the chassis and suspension ect - oh man. LOTS of rust/rott Lots of PAtches and Lots of welding. I hope this is not true with your car...just a little warning. -Jake |

Good points... thanks for the warning. I looked the car over pretty closely and it seems to be solid save for a few spots, which I'm dealing with now and then in the warmer weather of spring or summer. I will certainly check the areas you mention, though.
It would be a shame to find that the car's not worth fixing... I just went out in the 24 degree weather (that's BEFORE windchill is factored in!) and after sitting for several days, she started right up for me. Thanks again! Chris |

Chris -
my car should have gone to the scrapper and filed under dead...but all cars are fixable and i found all of the rust / rott after A LOT of other work was done...so i was not going to lose it to old buffalo winter salt...but even now 5 years after all of that work, stuff like this happens...while doing work in the tranny tunnel i found this joy...the pivot for the accelerator pedal led to this hole i believe (outlined in yellow), thanks again to the rubber moister holder. - Jake |

Jake -- good work on patching the car up! Another MB avoids the junkyard... always good to see! I need to get a gas welder so I can do some welding of my own; I'm afraid my straight wire-feed will just punch holes in any of the car's body metal. My friend was down this past weekend and we made some VERY rudimentary patches on the rusty hatch on my TD. It's ugly as sin, but at least it'll keep the water out 'til I can find a rust-free hatch for my car. In watching him do the welds I gained a lot of confidence in my ability to figure it out for myself someday.
How did your floor repair go? Chris |

Chris...the floor went fine thank you - another patch and then sealed on both sides with 3M...as far as welding we use a argon charged, wire feed lincoln 100 with a weldone auto dimming helment (that boosts confidence!) i learned step by step just by watching my dad and practicing on scrap sculptures! really play with the controls, heat, range, speed to understand them...good luck, and save the car! - Jake

Thanks, Jake. Your setup sound just like my friend's, right down to the helmet. I'm going to save my pennies and hopefully buy my own by next summer. Just got off my ass and started a Roth IRA (FINALLY), so I'm $100 poorer each month now, but I think I can swing an Argon welder by then.
Thanks! Chris

I am searching for rust repair options for my friends W123. I checked out the Adsitco.com reference above and found a nice site but not what I am looking for.
I also found this site for those searching for "Rust repair Panels". Mercedes Benz Fixmyrust.com Prices are very reasonable. There seem to be a few companies offering these parts. This one also has reasonable shipping costs.
