Searched the forum, nothing came up.

Have a factory Dunkelblau 1985 W123 TE with dull paint on the roof, where can see flecks of medium light green.

I thought primer on Mercedes was always a light grey, so what are the flecks of green?

If it helps, same color under the hood in hard to reach places (show you, but the cold has stuck the hood).

Having another 1985 W123 (totaled by a elderly lady plowing into the rear) and never acted like had clear coat. Were there some non-metallic colors where clear was used?

Reason I am asking is because single stage if not thin, can be buffed back. But, if base-clear, there is nothing that will bring it back.

Never seen a W123 with anything other than base/clear original paint job.

Must be darn thick, as never blew through it and took a lot of punishment as a daily driver parked at University in a sandy climate.

Wonder why then just the roof clear coat went?

Paint is made up of many colors to get the final hue, try to find the formula and you will see what is in there. ( The formula is somewhat confidential but if you get a can mixed they usually stick it to the can under the regular label. )

The individual colors fade at different rates plus clear starts to yellow. ( Blue base , Yellow clear = Green )

If it's a metallic it's bc/cc if a solid color, it's a single stage. MB continued to use single stage to at least 1991 when the last W126 rolled out for solid colors.

Sorry I've been out of touch for so long. Had some personal things going on.

Looking at the picture, it is single stage, non metallic. What you are seeing is a color matched primer to the topcoat. The primer would not be an exact color match, but it would be close to improve hiding. Most manufacturers did that to varying degrees. Mercedes had more primer colors than most.
