Upgrade Audio System on 1997 R129
Anyone know of a website that has a section or demo of neat stealth audio installations in R129s?
I’m toying with the idea of an XM Satellite Roady 2 to see how I like the service. If I do, I’ll probably want a quality installation of a permanent unit. I've been reading/researching a bit the last few days, and I appreciate the contributions from the La Jolla guys. I wish I knew who the quality audio shops are near me. I've had bad luck with the shop supposedly the high line shop here. My car has the standard radio and I'm not sure what it is. I thought Becker made these things, but when I talked to Ed Ebel at Becker he stated that my radio was made by Alpine. I'm sure he knows what he's talking about, and I must say, although they look like the same radios, the buttons on the faceplate have a different feel than the Becker that was in my 1995 SL320. I also would like to add a CD changer, as I have 6 cartridges left from the wrecked SL320. My new car has never had the CD changer installed. When I visited a car sound shop over the weekend I got more confused than not! How can I find out what is compatible, or whether I have Ai cabling or MBus? My tentative idea is to get the Roady 2, then perhaps wait to get a permanent installation when Alpine comes out with the iPod adaptiuve unit they recently announced. I'd appreciate any help or ideas from those who've been down this road before. I'd also like to know why MB suddenly interupted the long reliance on Becker to use Alpine. And didn't they then go back to Becker? Thanks all
