Antenna big troubles
I have an 87 TDT wagen with the original Becker radio. Someone had hooked up a Hirshmann 2040 antenna. To do this they took two wires, the Green with yellow stripe and a black wire from the antenna wire loom and hooked them to the 2040. So the 2040 would go up when radio was turned on and down when radio or car was shut off. Well, the 2040 broke. SO I bought a rebuilt original MB wagen antenna. I connected the wires in the loom up together again as they should go ie black to black and green yellow to green yellow so my car wires to the antenna plug are correct again. so this past SAt, I tried to just plug the antenna in with no luck at all heres how it went......... I had a very unsuccessful day Saturday with this antenna. I plugged it in. The antenna switch made the antenna go up. When I press the Antenna switch to make it go down, I hear one click but nothing happens. I’ve looked at wiring diagrams but they show pink red and green wires none of which either my car or the antenna have. The wires on the car connector to antenna are a Green with yellow stripe, a blue, a black and two brown. I’ve figured out the black is always live juice no matter if key in ignition or not. One brown is definitely ground. The Antenna I bought has a Blue, a Black, a brown, and green with yellow stripe and a black. SO I thought maybe someone changed my car wires in the connector at one time since it had a Hirshmann 2040 hooked up to it. So I took a good look at the wiring diagrams on steaky and hooked up as follows. The car blue to #6 on the antenna, The car black all the time power to #1on the antenna, the car brown ground to #3 on the antenna, the other brown to #5 on the antenna and the car yellow green to #2 on the antenna. #4 on the antenna not used. Still Antenna wont go down. So I tried some other possible combinations and blew 3 fuses. I then left the black on #1 and brown ground on #3-I fairly certain that’s where these should go and tried every combination I could with the other 3 wires………nothing but I didn’t blow any fuses either. I've also tried to hook blue to blue and yellow green to yellow green. So I hooked it back up the way I described above and again when I push switch down just one click from the antenna. The antenna is still stuck up no matter what I do. I am Lost please help.

I had the same problem when I rewired an antenna
from another Mercedes with dissimilar wiring harnesses. There are two approaches. Write out the permutatations with the diffreent wires and try each one.
Or else try to reason it out. One wire makes it go up to basic height, another makes it go down and the third raises it to full height. I know this doesn't help much, but tria and error eventually solved it for me,even though I was very methodical and analytical and tried to think it thru.. |

Antenna
I did try trial and error now it won't go down at all. That didn't come out right did it? Anyway I think I've figured out that the always live juice goes to #1 lead on the power Ant. and that the brown ground goes to #3 on the antenna. I also ran a ground strap from the antena body to the car body. This antenna just wont go down. I'm worried maybe the rebuild antenna I bought is bad. Is there any way to tell?
