adding a sub and amp to w140

Has anybody here added a subwoofer and amp to the factory head unit setup? A shop that I spoke with said w140s are very tightly sealed to prevent external noise from coming in. He told me that perhaps getting 2 12" subs in the trunk could do it. Does anybody have any recommendations on how to do this? I am not looking to have alot of bass. Just want to improve the system a little. My concern is that the bass won't get into the passenger compartment from the trunk - I don't want to blast the sub b/c I don't wanna wake up the neighbors either. Thanks so much.

If you have a 140 with the Bose system and it works properly I wouldn't think you would want any additional sound equipment. That system has 11 speakers and is pure heaven, combined with the noiseless cabin of the 140 chassis it can't be beat. Now if you have a failed Bose amp like I did, I could not find a replacement, I wired in a $1200 sony amp that had all the different bridges and levels into the current head unit. It still did not sound as good as the Bose system, so I sent my old amp out for repair. I have listened to many stereos and setups at lots of shops and custom install houses and I have never heard a system sound better than a Bose. That is my opinion though.
Good luck!

In the system that I am currently installing in my 300CD I hollowed out the bottom of the first aid kit...Not sure if you have one....But in any event the sound shop is correct..The trunks are very tight in these cars and you must vent the base into the interior in some way...A popular technique is to actually cut a hole large enough in the rear deck to vent bass and somehow cover that hole with some sort of grille with sun fast fabric in a matching color so that there is a port into the interior...Good Luck

Does the w140 bose have good clarity? Can it produce the "inz inz inz" in the songs brightly?

I am not a true audiofile like I am sure most of you all are on this forum. I have always been happy with the Bose systems in my SL and my S. I am sorry I don't know what "inz inz inz" is.. ha ha... I probably have not experienced the high end stuff that is out there to know.

hahaha the "inz inz" I just imitated the treble notes you would find in songs. What makes the system "pure heaven"?

This system is good but nowhere near the best. More than 13 years have passed since it came out, there is better stuff out there. But for its time it was pretty good.
