QUESTION FOR CLEEVE
Hi,
Congratulations for being so generously helpful to members of the PeachParts Mercedes ShopForum.

My BE 1432 2 piece radio is on my electronic workbench. Since the din cable had been cut off and discarded together with the control unit, I have bought another control unit and I am now trying to test it with a standard pinout 7, 8 pin din cable (not Becker). I get the E 2 code.

1. What is the pinout of the 6 wire Becker cable Les
2. If a standard male to male pinout (1 to 1, 7 to 7) is used in the Becker cable (similar to my replacement test cable), what is the most likely scenario for checking the tuner-amp unit withotu the schematics? So far the, bias transistors and the 2 output chips test ok (at least no short) so does the big electrolytic
Thanks in advance
Les

We are working on a 1990 300d and someone has installed an aftermarket amp that is driving only the rear shelf speakers. The wires in the console are all cut up with the exception of a couple of plugs. I can plug in the becker that was in the trunk (BE0780) and it asks for a code. I don't even know where to begin with this wiring mess. The car has 6 speakers, does that mean it has amps/tuner in the trunk? is the BE0780 the right stereo for this car? Serial number is x9006304. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Aaron

Question

Yes, either the BE-780 or the BE-1480 will be right for the car.

Any chance you can help me with the code? It does give 4 dashes when plugged in. What are the differences between the 780 and 1480. Do i in fact have the amp in the trunk?

After further research it seems that the 780 requires a service to replace the battery inside that locks it out and the 1480 doesn't. I guess I'm done messing with this and will go the aftermarket route.

Need code for Becker 1692

Hi Cleeve,

Thanks for your help with the previous code. Unfortunately, I gave you the wrong SN.

Corrected:

Model: Becker 1692
SN#: S1003943

Thanks again,

Clay

I have a 87, 190e. New to me car. Got it running and the radio shows 4 dashes on the display, buttons are not responsive.

After poking around, I have gotten the impression that with this model year, I have to go to the dealer, as there is not a code. I assume that they plug something into the back of the radio.

Is there a way to disable the lock out so I don't have to do this again?

The Model# is 754
Serial # is U 6796855

Any help would be appreciated.

Call the dealer with your VIN number

I had to do this recently. The MB radio I had was not original to the car, but the auto dismantler I bought it from had kindly included the VIN number of the car it was salvaged from.

If it's original to the car, or you know the VIN from the original car, the dealer can look the code up for you over the phone.

On my 96 you put in the 4 digit code and then press seek or scan.

Good luck,

Clay

Well, the code is good otherwise you would not have gotten an E-2 error. The problem now is one of two possible problems. The tuner box in the rear trunk area is not connected properly or the CD changer (if you have one) is not connected properly. Check those items and if you still have problems let me know.
