Becker "blowing fuses"
Hey there,
The becker in my '84 300D Turbodiesel is disconnected (powerless), has been since I got it. There is a service note on one of the receipts that it "kept blowing fuses". Anyone have any idea if this is a common or easily fixed deal? I've replaced the main fuses--is there an in-line or separate fuse for the radio? I don't know exactly what model becker it is, but it is described as "BECKER RADIO GRAND PRIX ELECTRONIC CASSETTE". Thanks, Steve.

The factory beckers on my 85 and 87 both had problems with a short in the faceplate. On the 85, I could get it to work sometimes by pressing on the faceplate, and othertimes, I would pop the fuse when pushing on the faceplate.
If you care about originality, you can get the unit repaired. I found it was easier and cheaper just to upgrade to a CD headunit, plus the audio quality is way better.

Thanks
Thanks very much.
Something like that I probably would not mess with-- you're right, its much easier to upgrade. Hoping it was something simple. Anyone else have an idea?
