Did you get the owners manual pouch with it? Mine had a card in it with the code # on it.

yup....I drove to the dealer and they helped me out with a code.I've punched in the code as instructed but the radio still will not come on, it still shows CODE on the display,the guy at the dealership said if that happens then they'll have to pull out the radio, get the serial number and give me the appropriate code.

I have a 1998 E300 and have used the radio code a couple times. If I remember correctly, I put the code in and then pushed the power button again as sort of an enter key.
