I've searched previous posts but found no answer. My stock Becker in my 89 300E just decided to not power on. Has clicking sound coming from it. I like original, Can anyone tell me if and how I can save it?

No, but I've got a stock unit from a 92 300E just sitting, everything works. Let me know if you're interested

There is a fuse in the rear of the radio. Assuming that the thing does not power up at all, that is probably the problem. Remove ash tray insert, then 2 screws that were hidden, then the entire ash tray assembly comes out. Reach in and pull the radio straight out, you might have to pull down the 2 locking clips at the lower front of the radio. The fuse holder just pulls out of the radio.

Good info to try. I'll try in morning and let you know. If anyone has any additional ideas please continue to let me know. I would prefer to save the original. Thanks.

Click
You may have a short in the unit and the noise is the unit trying to power up and then the overcurrent protection intervening. The short could be in the speaker wires and not in the head unit. I'm not a professional sound guy so take this with a grain of salt.

If everything else fails, you can send it back to Beckers for service or there are some other places, including Steve's place, Continental Imports. Good luck.

Some more good info. the clicking sound from a circuit protector sounds possible if such a thing makes such a sound.
Not being a stereo pro myself, how does one locate a speaker wire fault?

I removed the Becker, the fuse on the back looks good. I noticed a white colored connector that fits in the center of the back is disconnected. I guess it's possible I accidentally knocked it free when I removed the radio.
From the side view it looks like this shape: ---------- | | | | ---------- | | ------| Does anyone know if this is supposed to be connected full time ?

Do you have power to the fuse from the car battery? Either use a multimeter or a test lamp to find out. Yes, the connector should be connected.

Excellent, I'll reconnect the white connector. I'll check for power at the fuse. Does this mean anything to ya; Interestingly, when I replaced the radio with and without the white connector the automatic clicking noise stopped. It now clicks 3 times only when I press 'ON'. It now displays 5 dashes when it previously didnt have any display.

Unfortunately, if you are getting anything on the display you have power, therefore it isn't something dirt simple. Frankly, with the price of much more advanced radios that are on the market today, I wouldn't fix it as you can get a great radio with CD or casette for under $100, installed.

Well perhaps you're right. Darn. I'm mostly a radio station dude and found the Becker to do a fine job for my needs. I suppose a pro stereo shop would have something that would match the car ?? I appreciate all the help as I did get that darn continuous clicking noise stopped.

Just wondering... a stuck tape casette can make a clicking sound and will prevent the radio from playing. Have you checked out this possibility?
Smiles.
