stereo problem

hi all,ive got a w202 c280 1995,yesterday the speedo and tripmeter stopped working,after i had new stereo fitted,
did not do anything srange just took the original becker cassette head unit out,then replaced with lg head unit,no new leads or anything just plugged sraight into merc harness
any ideas as ive no idea thanks

i`ve found the problem today,i had the dash out to clean the needles on the speedo and still no joy.
then i put the old becker stereo back in and guess what!! it works again the speedo and trip meter
but i want a new stereo in the car so how do i do it anyone please help

This is far fetched, the Becker has speed dependent volume could it have something to do with that? Like the new radio grounding the input from the sensor. I would put it back and see if it happens again.

yes it was the speed dependent volume wire, just disconnected it and away she went the speedo and trip meter working again with the new stereo
