Making an x-mas list (300d speaker suggestions)

300CD actually.

I am making an xmas list for the wife, and would like to get going on my stereo install. The only thing I really need now is a set of speakers.

I will be running my speakers off my head unit (50W MOSFET) and already have a pair of 12's and a large amp sitting in a bedroom collecting dust. I might get an additional amp for the speakers later, but I am going to work with what I have for the moment.

The most important thing for me is stock appearance. I don't want to be able to notice aftermarket speakers at all. I am not worried about cutting below the rear dash for mounting if necessary, but the stock look is most important.

I know rainbow makes killer speakers that meet all my needs, but I don't think I have been that good this year. Price should be reasonable, but I still like good crisp, clear, loud sound.

What do you think?

What size are the front speakers in the W123?

What type of music do you listen to?

How much do you want to spend?

I have an Alpine 9884 head unit on the Dee8gonator's Christmas list. The new speakers are already in. I put Infinity Kappas in mine. I think they sound pretty good.

Alpine makes good head units. I am running an Elipse CD8443, pretty old but still does the job very well. Kappas are good speakers, what size do you have? Did you have to do any mods to make them work? Does it look stock?

I put 3 1/3" Blaupunkts in my 300TD. They fit just fine. Max (the 300TD) is going to go to my teenage daughter soon, so I didn't want to spend a lot on those speakers. they sound pretty good, though. Certainly they are much better than the old paper cones that were in there to begin with.

The Kappas are in my SEC. I think the tweeters stick up a little too high on those for them to work in the 123s. Chad made some modifications on his wagon to acommodate the high tweeters on his speakers.

Have you ever bought anything from those people, Justin? Their prices seem to be very good, at least for the things I looked at.

Yes, I do a pretty good amount of buying from them. They always ship orders out fast, and the prices are very good.

They have good customer service too. The last 5 times I needed stereo stuff, its been from them.

This is going to be my next set of speakers....

Phoenix Gold from www.hifisoundconnection.com. You possibly could buy the amp and the speakers for the $250 you want to spend. Phoenix Gold also makes a lot of the odd sizes used in european cars. I did the all the speakers in the car minus the subs in my 300 SDL for about $275 including wiring.

I am reconsidering buying the Infinity Basslink sub for the Dee8gonator after seeing their prices. Thanks for mentioning it, Justin.

My friend runs 4" speakers in the dash of his W123. I am not 100% sure tho.

Technically, I think it's a size 4M, which is metric. I have seen them various places when I wasn't looking for them. I just used the 3 1/2" ones, though. They worked out fine for me.

4 inch will work you just have to take some sandpaper and file to make the hole just a tiny bit bigger. You can make it fit with out the sandpaper if you just use pressure. I have 4 inch BOSS IQ Series(Discontinued)really good speakers. Anyways I still have to mode the covers so i can put them on because the tweeter is to high.

OK, I think I am going to go with a soft cover for my dash, so I am not so worried about the speaker vents being uncut. It's not my first choice, but it's looking like the easiest at this point. I am going to have to order from online, so I really have no idea what is going to fit.

Are there any restraints on magnet size?
