$12 for S&H of a knob? what a rip-off, the postage may cost $2 at the extreme.

No kidding. When I ordered via phone he told me $12 + S+H. I didn't bother to ask what the S+H cost was. I didn't expect it to be $12! And, it was sent USPS signature required. Since no one is home during the day, I had to go down to the Post Office and wait in line to pick up the damn thing.

All packages have to go out with tracking & delivery confirmation. We are on the east coast some areas of the country have higher rates for delivery than others. All packages are shipped with either special boxes or padded envelopes. All of this is added to the delivery fee. We used to have the policy of put it in a envelope, put a few stamps on it and mail it. Numerous orders were never received. We would have to ship a second order at our cost to replace. We also have to have a signature to confirm that the item was delivered. Without it too many are not received and we have no proof of the wrong address. It happens more than people think that an item is delivered to the wrong address. With tracking we can verify where it was delivered and who signed for it.

I understand your point, but when the cost of the part equals the cost of S+H, it make S+H feel that much more over the top, not to mention the S+H cost wasn't mentioned when I ordered over the phone. Mind you, I still would have paid it. I think having to drive to post office to pick up the package bugged me the most, not the $12 S+H.

If you guys shipped UPS, the receiver could decide if they want UPS to leave the package or have it signed for, AND they will re-deliver 3 times. Apparently USPS doesn't re-deliver if there's no signature, and, as I mentioned, it's extremely inconvenient to drive to the post office to pick up a package. For $12 S+H I would have expected at least a UPS delivery.

In any case, it is what it is. I got my new knob and I'm happy. :-)
