Two questions:

1. The power antenna is always having problems. I have replaced it once. The replacement still has problems. It does not extend all way. I have used white lubricant with limited success.

2. I'm replacing the Becker with a Blaupunkt (CD). Any suggestions? I want to add a CD changer in the trunk in the future. I got the stereo from ONSALE.COM auctions for $150.00 (list is ($475). They seem to have a regular supply of overstocks (you have to watch for the refurbs).

Do not use any jelly-like lubricants on the OE antenna it will usually just makes things worse. The trick is to keep the antenna as clean as possible. Dry wipe it then use some WD40 liquid lubricant to wipe it as clean as possible.
OH and anything is an improvement over the Beckers trust me.

I agree, anything over the stock Becker is an improvement. I just received my Blaupunkt Nevada from Crutchfield (for my '86 190E 2.3-16V). Looks to be a straightforward installation. Crutchfield is great -- both their tech support and the fact that they sent the unit with factory OEM wiring harnesses

As for the antenna, I used some silicone spray on mine. Gave it a generous spray, then wiped it down. Both extend and retract seem a lot smoother.

Thanks for the help. I'll avoid the WD40. A friend tried it on her car once. The overspray and also the excess dripped down the antenna and ate the paint.

I'm doing the install tonight. We'll see how it goes.

You have to clean the antenna with the WD40 or WD50 not lubricate it...
