I HAVE 2 CERWIN VEGA 12" SUBS I WANT TO PUT IN MY 87 300E.
I WANT TO PUT THEM IN THE TRUNK WITH THE DRIVERS IN A "V" SHAPE FACING THE ARMREST HOLE IN THE BACK SEAT
I WANT TO CUT OUT THE INSET OF THE ARMREST
SO I CAN HAVE A LARGE HOLE LEADING TO THE TRUNK FOR MY DRIVERS TO RESONATE INTO THE CABIN.
IS THIS POSSIBLE????? WILL RUN INTO THE GAS TANK??? OR METAL BRACING???
IF U KNOW THE ANSWER OR A BETTER IDEA FOR GETTING MY SUBS SOUND INTO THE CAR PLEASE INFORM ME!!!

Yes, Adam, the gas tank resides between the rear seatback and the trunk. I'm sure you'll receive suggestions on porting through the hatshelf though...
You can check some of the extensive posts below - almost all details on any of the 124 models discussed will apply to your car, including 500E info (see the LONG post below...)

Adam, Whic Cerwin Vega! subs are you talking about? "Vega 12", "AI 12", etc. There have been many attempts to place bass in a 124 so that the driver gets the benefit, not the kids on the sidewalk! The tried and true way to go about this venture is to follow CV's exact instructions for a ported or bandpass enclosure that will allow you to vent the bass into the car under the first aid kit. Put the kit in one of your "wells" in the trunk. Cut the steel shelf only large enough for the port and make sure that you can seal it so the bass only goes into the interior. A competent box builder may be required as port diameter and length need to be specific as required by the driver's Thiel small parameters. Cerwin Vega will supply you with a sheet that shows exact dimensions for your box. Their woofers are extremely efficient, requiring less wattage than other woofers. If you use a sealed box, then all the bass will fire into the trunk, creating a boomy sound. I was the rep for Cerwin Vega for 8 years (until last year) in New England. One twelve will easily do the job. I have a Cerwin Vega A.I. 12 (Accurate Image is their top stuff) in a custom bandpass box that exits through the rear shelf. My box builder replicated the first aid kit cover in MDF and covered it with matching grille cloth. He fabricated a Mercedes star logo and glued it to the face of the box which sits all the way back, under the rear shelf. He molded the carpet over the logo. The box, built exactly to Vega's specs, spans the trunk leaving only 1/2" clearance for the hinges. I went with the bandpass box which provides bass down to 30 hz! Peter

Do what I did on one of my 190E, take the first aid kit out, and put in a screen that matched the color of the carpet. It looks just like a speaker grille that is flush mount. It allows alot of the bass to travel in.

Another added touch was adding woofers (couldn't find subwoofers in that size) under the rear seats. The max size I fitted was 6" and they were better then nothing. I had 2 placed in the rear, and the subs were setup so that the ports would face the top close to the grille were the first aid kit was taken out. Since the gas tank is in the middle what I did is placed a wooden board against the cover and the gas tank, and screwed my amps and equalizers against the board so that I wouldn't have to place them on the ground of my trunk. That way I still have the useability of my trunk.

Just some Ideas.

If I were you I would bring it to a pro. Or at least ask some professional installers. They do this for a living and know their stuff. Best Of Luck
