Lot of static in stock Becker radio

Yes I have the stock Becker radio in my 85 300 SD and have a lot of static and few stations. I had to get rid of my stock power antenna replaced it with a fixed one. I had to get an adapter to plug into the European line to radio. This is the second antenna I have tried and reception is the same. I do notice that when radio is playing if I hold my hand on top of antenna reception gets a little louder and better so I thought it was a poor ground but when I try to ground the radio better makes no difference. I am thinking of trying a whole new line from radio to antenna and get rid of the adpater thinking thats wnere the problem might lie. Or thinking maybe I need a new cheapy radio to get some clear reception if I could just get the closest 4 stations I would be happy do not need anything fancy just so I can hear it nate tne static.

The Becker in my 84 300D gets terrible reception all over Las Vegas. I have a Kenwood in my 81 240D that gets great reception everywhere and the car's antenna isn't even plugged into it. I think, depending on where you are, the Becker just won't be that great. I could be wrong though.

I had a similar problem with mine. In automatic seek mode it would not find any FM stations, and if I manually tuned to a station the reception was poor.

I took it apart and replaced all of the electrolytic capacitors in the FM tuner module; now it works much better. The cost was only a few dollars. This was for a Becker BE 1480 radio (which shares the same FM tuner module as the 1432 and 780, and possibly others).
