CV Boot recommendations?
Hello,
I am looking to replace my original Cv boots on my '77 240D. I actually purchased some GSP CV axles, but upon delivery and QA inspection, realized that they were crap. (LOTS of poor reviews I should have seen earlier, oh well, only about 65$/pc). So I would like to replace the boots on my original axles. Any recommendations on a good CV boot? Anyone do this job and realized they need a large boot spreader to get over the axle cans? recommendations on which tool is needed to get this done? Thanks All! |

Seems to be in the wrong subforum.
Astoria2000 and Dorman are both stretchy enough to fit over the cans. I'd use the Astoria FB3001. I've put them on several vehicles and they've held up well. FlexxBoot FB3001 Large Shaft Universal CV Boot Kit Constant Velocity Boot Set You can either use a large transmission funnel or buy a tool for pulling the boots over the cans. Use lots of gear oil as lube and put your bodyweight to work.

Contact CVJ axles in Denver CO. Ask if they will reboot your axles not exchange them. I've used them a few times and was always satisfied.
Martureo's suggestion is also good, I've done it; but, it is a physical workout. At my age I wouldn't do it again but the results were quite good.
