loose connections?

When I listen to the radio my left channel speakers intermittently come on. As soon as I switch to the CD changer, all speakers fire just fine. Just wanted to get some feedback before investing time in tearing apart my interior.

Also does anyone have experience with old Sony head units? My car came with a Sony XR-727 head unit and Sony 12 disc changer. The head unit doesn't want to tune stations beyond 89.9 - once you past 89.9 it starts scanning the presets instead of the next station.
