Well, I removed the Radio Shack CD player from my F-250 for a warranty repair. I'm seriously considering putting this radio into the 300D instead of the pickup, as it has an amber display (matches the car) and actually resembles the Becker that's currently in the car...well, it resembles the Becker more than any radio currently on the market. It also matches what I need; if Radio Shack were still making the radio I'd have already bought a 2nd one for the Benz. Before committing to this decision, I decided to see how difficult removing the Becker radio would be. It was downright simple, and, being a bit bored, I decided to tear the radio apart to see why the tape player stopped working. Taking the radio apart proved easier than expected

I believe the gentleman you want to speak to is Ed Becker who works for becker autosound www.beckerautosound.com Find the contact number and ask for him. He would frequent their Ritter/Easely MB email list and drop nuggets of info for masochists as yourself Warden :p. He would definitely be able to help.
Becker also has a rebuilding service in which they will send you a completely rebuilt version of your radio when you send yours in as a core. The Core charge is over $300 if I remember right for the Mexico that is in my 123, but you end up spending only about $125 to get the completely rebuilt unit. So there's another avenue in case you decide you want to keep the old Becker. Regards, - Ryan

Thanks to both of you for your responses!
However, I decided that, as much as I like the OEM look, I'd rather not pour $$ into the stock unit. So, I think I'm gonna take that Radio Shack radio and put it in the car. So, back to my other questions...what wire is what in the stock harness(es)? The antenna wire's a given, and I think I know which wires are for the speakers...although I don't know which wire is for left and right, and don't know which is hot and which is ground. Also, which (front or rear on the "new" radio) speaker wires should be wired into the wires going to the fade control? Lastly, can the fader handle the bit of juice this radio'll put out without melting? I don't want a hole where the fader is, but I don't especially want the fader to stay there "just to fill the hole" either...if running 30x4 watts of juice through the fader's not at a critical level, I'd just as soon go that route. ![]() ALso, this isn't quite Benz related...I was thinking about putting a Sanyo FXCD-500 CD/cassette radio in the pickup. Does anyone know if this is a decent unit or not? I like the layout and that it can do tapes and CD's; in spite of the green face, I'd put it in the Benz except the website says that it won't fit for some reason...maybe it's too long? It does say it'll fit in the pickup, though...which also has a DIN face. Thoughts appreciated. Thanks!
