I had had a problem with my power antenna for some time now. When I turn on the radio, I can hear the motor run but the antenna always stays up. Even when I turn the motor off, I hear the motor turn but the mast continues to stay in the up position.
Today, I decided to tackle this problem. My gut feeling was the plastic gears were stripped. Upon taking out the motor, I noticed that its not the original motor, but a remanufactured one. It had a remanufacture sticker on it by the original company. So I remove the cover to look at the inside. The gears were not stripped, just had some gunk on it which I cleaned. While looking inside, I have found the problem. There is a small rubber band that is toothed that connects the gears from the little motor to the big plastic gear. This rubber band was stretched out a little bit due to a crack and prevented the white plastic gears from spinning. My question now is.. can I purchase this black rubber band? Currently, I have super glued the rubber band and I have a feeling its going to be only a temporary fix. I have retracted the antenna mast and it goes up half way now. I noticed that the mast is a little bent towards the bottom. This might be a reason why it won't retract all the way on its own.
