Why?.....An Amp Question
Hello All;
As someone said earlier in this forum; the number of Amplifier choices is both a good thing and a bad thing. For my 1985 300SD - 126, I was concidering choosing one of a few amps. The other day I was talking with a dealer/installer and told him I was looking at a Phoenix Gold Titanium 500.4. I was going to power MB Quart RKCs in front and rear with the amp. I have a Blaupunkt Alaska Head Unit and an Infinity Basslink Powered Subwoofer. When we were talking about my proposed configuration, he suggested a Clarion APA 4101.4 amp in place of the Phoenix Gold (He happens to be an authorized Clarion and MB Quart dealer). I don't have much exposure to these amps so I am curious about how they compare. Does anyone have any opinions about Clarion and/or Phoenix Gold? Are these two amps comparable, or in totally different leagues? Any suggestions or opinions would be most welcomed. Enjoy, james |
The two amps are indeed in different leagues. Just compare the MSRP of each unit. But that alone does not tell you which is better for you. Phoenix Gold is a very reputable company that produces solid amps. The Clarion is also good but may turn out to be less durable as well as less powerful. If you are not a competitor the Clarion is a good choice. It will do the trick for a modest price.
