Question Why?.....An Amp Question

Hello All;

As someone said earlier in this forum; the number of Amplifier choices is both a good thing and a bad thing.

For my 1985 300SD - 126, I was concidering choosing one of a few amps. The other day I was talking with a dealer/installer and told him I was looking at a Phoenix Gold Titanium 500.4. I was going to power MB Quart RKCs in front and rear with the amp. I have a Blaupunkt Alaska Head Unit and an Infinity Basslink Powered Subwoofer.

When we were talking about my proposed configuration, he suggested a Clarion APA 4101.4 amp in place of the Phoenix Gold (He happens to be an authorized Clarion and MB Quart dealer).

I don't have much exposure to these amps so I am curious about how they compare. Does anyone have any opinions about Clarion and/or Phoenix Gold? Are these two amps comparable, or in totally different leagues?

Any suggestions or opinions would be most welcomed.

Enjoy,
james

The two amps are indeed in different leagues. Just compare the MSRP of each unit. But that alone does not tell you which is better for you. Phoenix Gold is a very reputable company that produces solid amps. The Clarion is also good but may turn out to be less durable as well as less powerful. If you are not a competitor the Clarion is a good choice. It will do the trick for a modest price.

What did you finally decide to do and what is your impression of the equipment?
