Newbie looking for recommendation: 87 300D
Hello,
I'm new to changing stereos, and am looking to upgrade the BECKER GRAND PRIX in my 87 300D. I've never done this before, and I'm looking for a relatively inexpensive system, that just sounds nice, nothing too special. Any recommendations from recievers to speakers, to how to do it are greatly appreciated. Doug |

Give us a little more to go on. Does your music collecion contain cassettes or CDs or MDs or a combination of these. How many speakers are in your car? Where are they? What size are they? How much do you want to spend? Are there amps in your car?

Here is my cheap and good setup
I have a Blaupunkt Santa Fe CD32 player, MB Quart DKD-146 4x6's for the back, MB Quart DKD-110 4" for the front. It works great, the highs are amazing, and it was cheap. All the manufacturers are German as well, and MB Quart are world renknowned for their speaker technology. Excellent quality tweeters which feature a titanium dome. Very high build quality, very expensive unless you go on ebay. They make bigger speakers as well. check out www.mbquart.com

Hello again... more info:
Stereo is the original Becker Grand Prix, no amps, 4 speakers. I'd like to spend around $200. Mostly CD's. Thanks. |

Well
My set up would work perfectly I think. Provides more than enough power to those speakers, and it looks good too.

Pioneer sells very good stereo gear at reasonable prices. Maybe it would be a good idea to just replace your headunit for now and see what improvements are needed later. The Pioneer KEH-P2500 CD player is a good start. You will notice the difference immediately. That should set you back around $140 or so. Wire the speakers directly to the CD player not to the car's fader. If your speakers are not "busted" you should be O.K. with this set up. Otherwise, replace as needed.
