Question SLK Sound System

Hello -

I just got a '99 SLK 230 K, and realized that due to factory Bose system and wirings, the audio upgrade may not be as easy as I hoped. (I wanted to use a Panasonic CD headunit that I pulled out from my last car - a Volkswagen - but I guess I have to give up on that. . . )

Currently I just have a factory cassette player, and would like to install a CD changer, since that seems like the only choice I have. I am thinking of getting Mercedes Fiber Optics unit (expensive. . .) or the Alpine unit (w/ Adapter) or one of those USA Spec. ones.

Are they the only choice I have in adding a CD player to my car ? I am trying to avoid CD changer via FM modulator because I am not too confident of their sound quality.

Is there anyway I can use my Panasonic headunit, and maybe use the existing Bose amplifier and speakers ?

Thanks in advance !

I recently added a Becker CD unit to my SLK and just love it. I got
a rebuilt unit from Ed Ebel at Becker. eebel@harmanbecker.us
It was quite a reduction in price from new. The bass is many times better than the stock radio.
Hope this helps you.

Thumbs up Thank you -

Thank you !

Actually, I was able to install my Panasonic in dash CD unit, and it is working fine ! (I somewhat believed that my car had a separate Bose amplifier, that was not compatible with after market head unit - and of course, that was wrong assumption. I had this problem in my Audi before.)

One problem though: Now I have an Airbag Warning Light on my instrument panel. . . Did any of you have similar experience ? (Or did I just cut wrong wire. . . ?)

Cheers,

CHRIS

SLK stereo problem

Hi -

I have recently purchased a '99 reg SLK 230, it came with standard cd player, which is not bad, but it can't play any of my back-up audio cd's. So I was just wondering if anyone had the same problem and could tell me how they over came this, I've burned my back-ups on 4x (my lowest) and using just any blank cd.

My contingency plan is to install my Sony MD player with cd changer from my last car, but don't really know where to put the cd changer (10). I've been on ebay and come across these stereo removal tools, does anyone recommend getting them?
Any help on how to install my Sony head unit would be really appreciated!

Cheers
Simon
