1982 300D antenna/radio question

I'm looking at a 1982 300D, and I'll most likely be acquiring it soon. It has a newer aftermarket radio with a CD player in it, but still has the original hirschmann antenna. I noticed the antenna switch was at the midway position during test drive, but the antenna mast itself was at the maximum position, although the radio was off. Does this have something to do with an aftermarket radio, or the antenna motor, or its slightly bent mast not being able to retract itself? Sorry I can't provide more info right now.
