I am in the process of buying a 1994 E320 Sedan. The radio will not come on due to a code input requirement. The battery was changed without maintaining auxillary power to the radio. Does any one know how to obtain this needed code. The present owner does not know and does not have any documentation on the vehicle.

You need to get the VIN and go to a MBZ dealer. They will be able to research the code for you, or possibly reset the radio on the spot. As far as I know, there is no other way around this problem. Maybe someone else has better info on this..

What would be ideal is if you knew where the car was originally bought. Find the number of that dealer and call them. It should be in the maintenance records.

Right-on! It's a dealer thing and we are working now to find original dealer and maintenance records.

Some of the Becker units can be programmed by a numerical code while others must be reset using a special tool that is only availale to dealers. It only takes a couple of seconds to program the radio. They just pop the faceplate off and insert a special reset board in and voila! They shouldn't charge you for that.
