Help with 99 E320 Bose System

Greetings,
I have a 99 E320 with the Bose Speaker system and I'm a bit confused about my upgrade options. Everyone seems to have a different take on the situation. Some say the fiber optic system will preclude me (or make it quite difficult) from upgrading. Others say with the right adapter I should be able to make it work.

Is it feasible to remove the factory head and replace it with an aftermarket one? Do I need to replace the speakers and Bose amps also? Is it possible to put a flip up screen in the dash instead and leave the factory head alone? I do have the analog MB integrated phone system, but I have no problem with not using it. Its outdated and useless. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

J

Hi, I only know about the factory stuff. There is an audio forum here, the moderators there are knowledgeable about the aftermarket stuff, you may want to also post your question there.

I Have the same Bose systen as you. Uprading can be done but not without a lot of expense. I've checked with several high end shops that quoted me around $1000 for head unit upgrade and 4 new speakers doors and rear deck. Too much for my taste. Good luck. Let me know if you stumble across any good upgardes. Thanks Jeff
