Speaker Mounting Depth 2000 CLK430

Hey, i have a 2000 CLK430, and am trying to decide which aftermarket speakers i want to use in my car, as i am renovating the whole system. without trusting myself to take the car apart, i want to know how much room i have to work with in the two door speaker spaces. ive got plenty of room to work with on the back deck, and the tweets are no problem, but i need to know how much room i have in the doors where the 6.5 and 3.5 bose speakers are. I found specs on the mounting depth of the bose speakers, but at 1.5 inches for the 6.5, im certain they are incorrect. the 6.5 inch speakers i want to replace in that space have a mounting depth of 2.75, just want someone to assure me that i will have enough room. i know the difficulty of the install, dont plan on doing it myself, but dont want to buy speakers and have them not fit. Thanks in Advance.

I don't have the Bose system in my car (C230), but I ended up having to build a baffle out of MDF to be able to install aftermarket speakers. The original speakers had a plastic ring around them that could potentially be reused, I found a link somewhere that included pictures of this. I'll reply back if I find it again.

Thanks. Wish it were that easy to access the speakers in the CLK, so that i could just take it apart and check. However, in order to access the door speakers in the CLK, essentially the whole door has to be taken apart, the speaker covers dont just come off. but would i be right in concluding by this that even with a deeper speaker, making adequate room isnt terribly difficult? I will be replacing the Bose speakers with aftermarket speakers of the exact same diameter.

Hopefully it will be OK. You also have to look at the clearance between the door panel and the part of the door the speaker mounts to. For example: say the distance between the mounting panel and the outside of the door is 1.5" and the clearance between the mounting panel and the inner door panel is 1", you can get by with a 2.5" mounting depth. You'd build a 1" thick baffle to mount the speaker on and then mount that whole assembly to the door.

Another option is to have a custom enclosure built, but obviously it is not always cheap.
