Audio recomendations

I am looking to put in a new system and would like any input on best head unit and speakers to install... I want good sound with mid range price. I was looking at MA audio for speakers but I have not yet found a head unit i like. Really looking for a good fit not to many customizations...

I was in the same boat - looking to upgrade from stock and not get too fancy. I've decided on an Eclipse unit with single CD in it and I am also going with Boston Acoustics speakers for my '94 E320 wagon. Total bill will be about $600 I estimate. The Eclipse is about $200 and figure about $80 for each speaker plus install. I waited for a long time before anyone from this section replied. if your looking for other ideas try the Open Forum - a lot more traffic there.

I would have to 2nd the Eclipse choice. I have an older model 55430 in my MB, it was about $450, 3 years ago. It is excellent. I ended buying come Kicker Resolution components for speakers. If I had the money to get what I wanted, I wuold have gone with some Focals.

I've had nothing but excellent performance from Alpine head units. I've had one installed in each of my cars throughout the years and never had to replace one. They are all working fine. You can get a great Alpine single-CD player for around $150 and MBQuart or Infinity speakers, installed, for around $550 or less. Or, cut costs and get cheaper speakers. Remember though, no matter how good your head unit is, if your speakers are crap, then crap is what you'll hear.

I have a Alpine 7894 and it is the best radio i have ever had. No skips, plays all formats of CDs including MP3, and tons and tons of other features and they are last years model so you can pick them up new on ebay for cheap check it out.....Link
As for speakers I have JL Audio Components all around and 2 JL audio 12 inch subs in the rear. I will post some pictures tonight. It sounds awesome

I've actually had a panasonic Hu in for almost 4 years and have nothing but good things to say about it. It has amp and sub outputs and the price was great. It also adds a nice blue accent to the interior of the car. my next HU will probably be panasonic. You can't go wrong with anything thats been suggested though. What features are you looking for?

I've had alpine hu's, mb quart speakers, and jl audio subs in my previous car and it is the best setup. My brother has the same setup and it's amazing. IMHO thats the way to go. I'm trying to get this in my CLK430 now.
