Diagram for wiring an audio system

Does anyone here have or know where I might find a relatively simple diagram for wiring an audio system? I have a pretty good book called Car Stereo Cookbook, but it is pretty detailed. I'm looking for something that is not too complicated, just the basic stuff, head unit and four speakers, maybe the option to put in a sub at some point.

Cookbook would have been my recommendation, as it shows a lot of options, basic to complicated. If you just want to start with HU and four speakers, your best bet is pretty much what comes with the HU ... the HU usually comes with a wiring harness of its own and a guide to which color wire goes where (my Alpine had a real simple diagram in the installation guide). Then you look at your specific vehicle's wiring diagram and match each wire to the corresponding wire in your HU harness. You may have to re-wire, depending on the vehicle ... to decide that you need your car's diagram.

If you're just hooking up an HU to speakers, I think the most useful items would be 1) the installation guide that comes with your HU 2) your vehicle's wiring diagram and 3) your vehicle's chassi/body FSM (if you need to re-do wiring).

If you're adding a sub, I'd just read the subwoofer section of the Car Stereo Cookbook. It offers suggestions for a really basic choice as well as the more complex choices. Even if you want to go the most simple route (sub w built-in amp and crossover in pre-fab box), I'd recommend knowing all the options and their pros and cons. If you know you don't want to build your own box, skim over the very detailed portion about boxes.

If and when I fly to your area for one of the meets, I will help you out with the stereo.... I love my mobile sound.

Thanks. I have read a good bit of the Cookbook, but ended up feeling overwhelmed by it.

Don't have a diagram, but installed a newish HU in my '85 w123 a few weeks ago and copied all of the wiring from it.

Power set:
ACC - Black
B+ - Red
Illumination - White
Ground - Brown
Power Antenna - Blue (covered in plastic)

Speakers: (Similar colors are assigned to each speaker, IE Brown + Brown/Stripe)
Front L - White
Front R - Brown
Rear L - Black/Yellow
Rear R - Black/White
This is all given you are getting rid of the stock POS fader.

I would check all of these with a multimeter before hooking all of them up, just in case. Hope it helps.

I got my leather dye for the seats yesterday, so I'll pull them out to reddye and take out the carpet for cleaning. I'll probably replace the wiring when I do that.
