My new trunk!
Well...I got a couple of deals that I couldn't pass up and totally redid my sound system. I picked up a limited edition Elemental Designs B312, MTXThunder801D, a JBL P180.2, and a Lightning Audio 1 farad capacitor. I havent gotten to listen to it all yet because I'm awaiting on my new HU.(Alpine CDA9835) I finally put up a board so that I could mount my amps on the back wall instead of mounting them on the sub box. enough talk...here are some pics:

I've always wondered about this. What's the point?

Trunk
That is not a trunk, that is just one big sub enclosure. I am sure that is a great solution if you never plan to take your car anywhere where you need to take luggage. Or shop at Home Depot, or the Grocery store, or play golf or or or.
This is exactly why I opted for the much smaller self powered sub. And I still may have to remove it when the whole family goes somewhere.

I've had a sub in my trunk before this. I can still fit luggage for 4 people and then some......I'm only 19 so I dont need that much trunk space.

Yea, my wife looks at my powered sub and thinks I am nuts to put in an SDL. She would fall over if I did what you did.

You think that takes up a lot of space, I have 2 15" woofers in my trunk, but I still got space for 2 sets of golf clubs, more than enough room. besides if I take a road trip, I take the honda... better gas mileage than my benz... I don;t plan on keeping the 15's for too much longer, the bass is great, but too much if you ask me. I'll trim it down to a smaller size later, but for the price I paid for the woofers with box, I'm nto complaining.
I want to trade up to a 10" or 12" JL Audio W7 later, but at the $$$$ of the speaker alone, it can wait. Alon

I don't get it- all that money...would be MUCH wiser to save for repairs, maintence and parts.
Is this a California thing?

well here's what i've gathered so far from all the posts and also from experience, that the bass doesnt travel from the trunk to the interior of the car that well due to the metal sheets betwen the trunk and the passenger well. for those who have the subs in the trunk and don't have the rear lid cut, how does the bass feel ? any tricks to getting the proper bass inside the cabin ?
thanks.

I have one of each and sure, you can "feel" it some. Hard to feel too much with the roar of diesels.

bass in trunk
a lot of it has to do with what you put in the trunk, type and size of subs, sealed, vented or ported box, wiring and the amp you use, plus the proper tuning, like anything else quality in, quality out
