radio buzz when headlights are on.

I got an SDL a couple weeks ago, it has the original becker stereo. When I turn on the headlights I get a hum in the radio. It does not change pitch with engine speed. Is there something simple I can check or do to get rid of this? thanks, andy

Hi Andy.

Check the ground wire first.
If it's OK then read on.

Does it do it to with the radio off and the headlights
on.

Reason for asking is that most likely it is radiated
noise from the headlight relay, but the question is,
is it picked up by the radio or the speaker/wire.

If it is the radio it will only do it with the radio on.
If it is the speaker/wire then it will do it no matter
the radio is on or not.

If it is the radio then you'll have to check the power
wire, dimmer wire and aux power wire to see if it
is close to a relay somewhere.

If it is the speaker/wire the same goes for it.
You'll need to trace it to see if it passes close
to a relay.

Louis.

is the illumination wire ont he radio hooked up? it could be causing some feedback, but first check the ground wire, and reground it if necessary.
