hood liner replacement

what did you use to hold the hoodliner to the hood while the adhesive sets?

i have a 4x6 foil backed hoodliner (aftermarket) that i cut and test fit, but my spring clamps/regular clamps wont work well they 'crush and rip' the aluminum facing.

ive got 3m 90 adhesive, and i dont want to take hood off and (realign it)

tips?

Spray adhesive on both the hood and the liner. Install the liner with the hood vertical and let the adhesive dry. Once the liner contacts the hood it won't move so dry fit and mark it first to assure it's aligned properly.

The correct adhesive is a contact cement. Once it's on, you shouldn't need to clamp it with anything.

I stood on my shock towers and used a 6" paint roller to ensure a good bond everywhere with the hood open to 90˚. Mark the center of the hood top and bottom (or front and back). After you use the 3M 08090, fold the pad in half and apply the crease on the marks. Then open it up (like a book) and roll it on.

Don't skimp on the 3 coats on the hood and 3 coats on the pad. I used about 1-1/2 cans.

If I had to do it by myself, I would use some cardboard battens or plastic sheeting held in place by quick clamps, to make sure I had every thing squared up before the two surfaces are joined. You can get somewhat of an idea from counter top laminating...

I had good luck with Ronson lighter fluid. Cheaper and worked better than the contact cement thinner/cleaner I also used.

I have to reglue both of mine. I was thinking of using Weldwood Contact Cement this time. The 3M stuff apparently didn't hold well enough.
