1994 E320 Cabriolet: droopy headliner
Hey guys. The headliner on my Cab droops sometimes. There are two wide plastic pieces on the headliner, basically U-shaped bars that appear to clip to the cross members of the convertible frame. It doesn't look like there was ever any adhesive in there, based on what I can see, it's a friction fit, the clip slides over the frame bar, with some fabric in between to keep things smooth. I'm guessing the plastic U-shaped bits are worn and no longer as stiff, and are slipping off.
If I try to put the top down with the headliner drooping, it poofs out enough to keep the top from stowing correctly. I have to reach up, pop the clips back into place, and then put the top down. Not a big deal, but having a droopy liner just kinda sucks. Anyone with one of these have a solution? I'm hesitant to get in there and jam it up with trim adhesive, since it might not move smoothly like I'm guessing it needs to. Also... I'm going to be selling this car... know anyone? I 'spose I should put up a post over in the classifieds. ![]() |

I realize your post is old.......but just joined the forum.
I too drive an E320 cab, and want to WARN you about the droopy headliner issue. Be oh so careful that the headliner is UP and in it's proper place BEFORE lowering your top! Not aware mine was not securely in place (the U shaped bars you described), when the hatch tried to close, the top was not fully stowed in it's compartment. And so....as the hatch closed it tore a terrible, large, jagged hole in center of my headliner. So...make sure it's pressed firmly against the "bars" before putting your top down. I check now, every time, and usually find they need a press up, and will snap closed against the bars. Just a word to the wise. Me?.......now need it needs to be replaced.....$$$!!'s Best, David |
