1987 300TDT rear seat backrest upholstery/leather removal?

I am trying to figure out how to remove the the rear seat backrest upholstery/leather in order to install some threaded inserts. I have posted a more detailed thread in the diesel discussion forum. I thought I would mention it in this forum as well since it is an interior question.
