Needing to paint the bumpers

I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask painting questions but I will move the post if needed. I’m in need to paint my bumpers and side skirts. I have washed them, and wet sanded them down with a 800 grit sand paper and smoothed them out. But I was wondering if anyone had a name brand primer and paint they like to use. I will be taping them off, and spraying them with paint can application. Because I lack the skill and knowledge to use a spray guy.

Any tips or product line information would be helpful.

are the bumpers plastic or metal? if plastic u need a good adhesion promoter. otherwise just use a filler primer, sometimes auto paint stores sell some good canned ones. i bought it for doing my dash for $25 a can. or u can go to autozone and get the rustoleum filler primer, let it cure overnight then paint tomorrow, make sure u wetsand the primer down with 6-800 grit. id sand before i prime with 320-400.

I prefer the SEM line of products. Use their line of paint designed for plastic bumpers.

I have done several cladding and bumpers. Easiest application after prep has been MaxX yellow urethane primer and I have purchased the OEM color from paint scratch dot com with flex added. It takes a quart for a S class.

Looks like I came to the right place. I've already sanded down the plastic bumpers with 800 grit wet sand paper. So I'll do it again purchase the primer and paint I'm going to need. Looks like a weekend project. Thanks for your help

if the bumpers have some chips in them, u must sand further than 800. it is ok to prime over 400 as long as u use filler primer.

paint is not a filler and u must sand out the chips and scratches, if u have none, than 800 grit is just scuffing the surface to so the paint can stick, but even that is a little fine, id use 600.

Do you guys pull them off to paint or do a good tape job? Just curious, went both ways. Much less time consuming to just tape and paint.

its always best to remove a panel, i try to always remove before i paint
1 helps reduce risk of overspray
2 u may not get the masking line perfect.

i have painted items just by masking, just take your time. painting should be about 5% of time spent on the project, prep and masking should be the other 95%.
