W126 doors squeaking when driving
My W126 (300SDL) does all sorts of noises when the car is moving. The most annoying one is coming from the door thresholds. I think it is a hardened plastic lip at the door step that rubs on the inner bottom door plastic cover.
Do people know any cure for that noise? Martin |

Martin, place a piece of paper on the door sill and close the door to confirm your suspicion about what is causing the noises. Over the years the doors may have sagged slightly, so loosen the hinges and raise the doors maybe 1/16" to see if the noise disappears. Be sure to trace around the hinges before loosening any bolts so you know the original location of the hinges in the door frame. Also, be sure to have at least one person helping you when adjusting the door position because the door is quite heavy and unwieldy.

Once in a while the plastic door sills pop up. Using your fist you might try to see
if they need to be pounded back down. |

I had the same thing on my '86 560SEL... I determined the squeeks were from the plastic threshold rubbing against the vinyl door material...
SO i glued a strip of satin ribbon along the bottom of the door, same color as my interior.. dark blue in my case. problem solved.. that was almost 10 years ago and the ribbon is still there. i used spray on upholstery cement
