W124 horn, steering wheel

My guess is that my horn doesn't work because something happened at the connection at the steering wheel. The horns themselves work fine. How does one disassemble the steering wheel? If this is a problem, can I do a workaround by finding the wires under the dash and inserting a generic horn button?

Steering wheel removal is on the W124 project page.

Then start at the beginning and work toward the horns.

First pull the airbag and make sure everything is spring mechanism intact.

If that's cool, jump the contacts.

If that's cool, pull the wheel and jump the slip ring contact brushes - or if later W124 jump the clockspring contacts.

If that's cool, pull the harness under the column and jump the horn pins.
