Angry Stupid Birds...

I left my car in the driveway of a friends house last week and left with him, came back later in the evening and a bird had left its distinguishable marks on the hood. Well I think it had the ability to bake all day in the sun and after washing and waxing I can still see where they spots were. Its a couple dull spots about the size of a quarter. Its bugging me to death, any ideas on how to get rid of them?

BTW its Brilliant Silver if that makes any difference on what to do.

Thanks,
Brad

Meguiar's Cleaner Wax.

Also, carry some Quick Detailer and a terry cloth towel and clean it up as soon as you discover it.

Sorry to hear about the situation. Unfortunately bird droppings are chemically "dangerous" to the paint. Always start with the least aggressive and work your way up (then back down the scale once you have it gone)

The cleaner wax described isn't bad, but it will leave more wax still on the finish. I would recommend starting with Meguiar's #9.

No need to do the whole hood (unless it is swirled or otherwise you feel it needs it) just put a small dab of the product on the tip of your clean finger and work only the affected spot. Rinse and repeat several times. #9 doesn't remove much paint and buffing harder or longer with it does nothing but endanger the rest of the paint. Apply, work it in (you'll feel what I mean), wipe off. Perform that cycle a few times and see what happens. Follow up with a swipe of a good clay bar system (mothers or whatever). Then feel free to use the cleaner wax or #7 and your wax of choice combo.

IF that does not do it let me know and we'll take it from there.

Hope this helps,
Lee

Man I hate pigeons. There is this one utility pole on my block that no-one parks under because if they do, they get major pigeon bombs all over the car. These fat birds don't have 'droppings' they have full-on stools !

Thanks for the tips Lee. I'll have to check it out on a few of the messes that sat on my car too long before I could get to them.

This bird has taste for MBs ...

I just hate the sight of baked droppings especially after the paints been done in.

It takes lots and lots of patience to apply the compound polish, before waxing it over.

After the initial compounding, try waxing it everyday until you see the blemish go of. For thoroughly done through blemish, you might need a stronger compound. But for most metallic paints, numerous waxing job will suffice.

I did the clay bar, cleaner wax and then #23 or 27, I dont recall, its late, then Mothers CA Gold, its looking fine, to notice it I have to look at night with a bright light opposite side of the hood then slowly move back and forth until I find the spot, definitly not noticable in sunlight, but I think waxing will take care of it the rest of the way. Thanks guys for the help, I'm feeling better about it. I sound like its a child huh ;-)

Thanks Again,
Brad

Talking dirty birds

We all think that parking under trees or near shady spots close to buildings are the best spots to protect our car interiors. However, the dang birds are cleverer, they love those spots for their transit lounges, airconditioned, secure and sometimes there's dessert like fruits or grubs to have dinner on. Unfortunately, they also have to do their business after the meal and what other best place to do it then there? Now I avoid those places and park far away from trees, building roofs and powerlines or telephone lines. I have installed window tinting to all windows except the windscreen and this cuts out UV damage and also cuts down on the heat transferred into the car.
