my headliner looks like @#%!

My car's an'84 300sd. Pretty rough with tiny nicks and tears, not to mention it looks dirty (i've scrubbed it to no avail). What's a reasonable estimate to expect for replacement?

Thanks

What color is it? Have you tried a local pick-a-part? Quite often Ecology gets Mercedes now and most are in fair shape. Usually the interior is pretty good.

actually

I just bought a NOS headliner on ebay for $50! I'm just hoping that this is a DIY job with professional looking results. I'm looking for any tips or suggestion with the install.

Thanks

Headliner R & R

I also bought a $50 NOS headliner for my 126 car off e-bay. It was advertised as being for an SEL or SDL but turned out to be a "regular" 126 body one (not long). Unfortunately, I have had it for a few months as the car is a bit of a project at the moment. When I got around to installing it, I was halfway through it when I realized it was too short. Fortunately, the children were inside when I discovered this...

It's not a bad job, but involves a lot of fiddling. Having got partway through it before being thwarted, I'm pretty confident it can be done with excellent results by a first timer. The procedure is in the manual/CD - if you don't have one, get one as they're indispensible. There are a lot of panels and pieces you'll need to remove in the process, but it's not the kind of thing you should fear. Again, the manual/CD is the way to go to demystify it.

Wink thanks for the response guys

I just checked out the job on the manual. It does look pretty straight forward. I do however, know my propensity to make a simple thing a fiasco.

I'll keep you guys posted when I finish th job.

Oh, I forgot to mention...

...that this is one of those "while you're at it" jobs. While the sunroof is out, relube the rails. When the headliner is out, you may need to reglue some of the foam attached to the roof (3M trim or Super trim spray).

That's all for now. Carry on.

Was the shorty liner Palamino? I could use it in my 82 SD. Send me a note!

I'd love to buy your headliner

JoelS,

Unfortunately, I have the same problem as you. After removing (and partially tearing) the old headliner and interior trim, I proceeded to install the new headliner. Everything went without a hitch until I realized that the liner is about 5" too long! I'm guessing this is for an SEL. Anyhow, I'd love to buy your 'liner, I'll throw in the SEL version for you, It's NOS still wirh the MB sticker on it. I bought it on e-bay, it just needs some cleaning up, the color is the same as the darker grey on this shop forum web page.

Let me know!

That may work.

I'll send you an e-mail or PM in a minute.
