92 300sd A/c Problem
My 92 300sd has a/c that works intermittently. First start of the day, it may take an hour or longer for the compressor to engage. If the car is sitting at idle, I will notice the rpm dip each time the compressor trys to kick on. Once it is on, it's fine until I turn the car off. Is their a relay? Any suggestions (other than leaving the car running all day)would be appreciated. I have been warned about the potential a/c problems with these cars.

I would check the pressure in the AC system. If you do not have guages, take it in and have them test the freon pressure. If the pressure is ok then check the pressure switch located on the drier. This is a place to start. Also be sure that when connecting and disconnecting the gauges to be very careful. You can can crack a line and cause a leak if you are not careful. Good luck!

Oh forgot to say, that is a great car! I traded mine in about a year ago and I regret it. I had 161k on it and still ran like a charm! do yourself a favor and keep the car! It may have some troubles, but you will never be able to replace it with anything comparable.

On that car the A/C pushbutton control sends a signal to the base module.
The base module is a computer in the under-hood computer box. Most scan tools can read codes & live data from that module. WHEN the A/C isn't working you need to have codes & data checked.
